United States Ambassador to the European Union: “Everything we have accomplished is because of our shared vision and hard work”

It has been an honor to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the European Union over the past three years.

I believe in the European Union and in the power of the U.S.-EU relationship to do good in the world. I am reminded each day that we are essential partners in a turbulent world.

As I come to the end of my term, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what we have accomplished. It’s a long list and I’m proud of what we have achieved together.

Blog Series on U.S.-EU Cooperation, part 3: the Joint U.S.-EU Financial Regulatory Forum

At least twice a year, U.S. and EU regulatory experts take part in the Joint U.S.-EU Financial Regulatory Forum (“Forum”). The Forum, which alternates between Washington and Brussels, is an important venue for transatlantic financial regulatory cooperation. The Forum was previously known as the U.S.-EU Financial Markets Regulatory Dialogue, and has existed since 2002. In July 2016, the dialogue was enhanced, renamed, and re-launched by Jacob J. Lew, Secretary of the Treasury, and Valdis Dombrovskis, Vice-President for the Euro and Social Dialogue, also in charge of Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union. The next Forum meeting will be held in Brussels in February 2017.

United States Government Helps Retrieve Italian Cultural Heritage

On December 2, I was in Rome and met with the Carabinieri, the national gendarmerie of Italy. I became interested in the work of a specialized art squad of the Carabinieri while reading The Medici Conspiracy. The book exposed a network of thieves and art dealers who smuggled the cultural antiquities of Europe and it highlighted the great work of the police who track them down.

What is the Fulbright-Schuman Grant program?

Fulbright-Schuman is the flagship educational exchange program between the United States and the European. It funds graduate and post-graduate study, research, and lecture proposals in the field of U.S.-EU relations, EU policy, or EU institutions for interested American and EU citizens. The first exchanges took place a quarter of a century ago under the Transatlantic Declaration of 1990.
